Digital Story Telling

TERM 3 - Digital Story Telling
Statement of Inquiry
Digital story telling has been able to influence the way in which we are able to express personal and cultural ideas.
Key Concept
Communication
ATL Skills
Critical Thinking
Transfer
Information Literacy
Global Context
Personal and Cultural Expression
Scenario - Design Situation
Primary school students are entering a world where everything is digital. Their e-mails to the teacher, parents even their social lives are based online! As you are in Term 3 of grade 7 and are familiar with the e-mail writing you are taking the responsibility of a mentor to teach primary school students about e-mail writing netiquette. While emails to friends can be littered with abbreviations, contain no formal structure, and be sent at two in the morning, this is not how students should format a job interview thank-you-note. As students get older, it is important to learn the dos and don’t of email, as well as other online etiquette, so these avoidable faux pas are prevented. Your task is to design a visual representation of the basic Do's and Don't's of  e-mail netiquette along with a formal draft letter which needs to be written to a school requesting information about the admission process in that school.

Chart 1:

Email
To use
To
Write the person’s email, in a small box, saying “To”.
Cc
When you would like, to send it to more than one person, you press the Cc button, in order to have that copied and shown to someone else
Bcc
Is the opposite of Cc when you want to turn the Cc feature off you press this button.
Reply to all
When someone sends and email, to you, you have the option to send a reply to whatever that person sent, this is much easier than making another email to that person.
Attachments

Adress book
Adress book is a certain database or data of you in your email that consists of a few things like Your name, last name, and more.

Chart2:

Forwarding
Forwarding refers to the operation of re-sending an email message that was meant to be sent  to one email address however, was probably sent to another.
Primary emails
There is one part of email, that allows you to see the emails of different people that have been sent to you, this area allows you to see the replies people have sent to you as well as the email itself
Social emails
In this you can see, any social type of emails, for example, instagram notifications and youtube and more
Promotion emails
This allows you to see ads and best of all, allows you to find notifications or alarms on important things, telling you when you have signed up to a website, when you bought something and more.

Advantages

• Emails can be sent and received from any computer, anywhere in the world, that has an Internet connection.

• The emails are Free

• You can easily reply to an email instantly.

• The emails are free so one doesn't have to worry about this at all.

• Emails may be sent to one person or even more than one.

• Emails are delivered extremely fast when compared to traditional post.

• Emails can be sent any day anytime this is unlimited.

Disadvantages

•  You need access to internet or Wifi, if you are in an attempt to use email, you must have this, or then you won't firstly be able to access your account or the email site in general, and this will lead to not being able to send an email at all.

• Viruses are easily spread due to email attachments, which is a feature of email.

•  There is no guarantee the mail will be read until the user logs on and checks their email.

Task 4

Task 4 -

Reflection:
During this task, I was able to discover new things about Excel and experience, the difficulties I could face, if I were, to seriously do this in the future. I was able to understand new parts of Excel that I didn't know before and use them to make my graph even better. Next time, however, I would like to experience more advanced and complicated charts so I can be ready for what is to come. As well next time I would also appreciate if I could do the graph a little faster. I also think that we should be able to have the chance and explore Excel by ourselves. Maybe to collaborate with our peers and learn new things, and prepare ourselves for the future.

L.O: I can produce a fully labeled bar graph

Background information:
In the winter it can get freezing, and the roads and pavements can get very icy.  Bill, the caretaker at Yams High School, wants to find a way to melt the ice quickly, so it is safer in the morning for children walking to school. The superintendent decides to do an experiment to investigate how the ice can be melted quickly.
He firstly measures the temperature of some ice cubes. The temperature is -4°C.  He then takes 4 ice cubes and puts each on a separate dish. He leaves one uncovered, he covers one in salt, he covers one in flower, and he covers one in a cotton material.

Reflection:

I think that I did well on this because I was able to complete a bar graph, as well as explore this app today. However, I would like to focus on working independently because I asked a lot of people how to do things while I want to do it completely independently next time. I think I was an excellent at being an inquirer because I experienced the use of charts and graphs during school hours, and also used, my knowledge that I have from the features task to do this assignment.

11 complex features of spread sheets

Automatic Calculation

The calculation is the process of completing formulas and then displaying the results in the cells instead of the formulas. When a formula is complicated, you can leave it to Excel to automatically calculate the formula correctly.

Dynamic update

To avoid unnecessary calculations, Microsoft Excel automatically recalculates formulas only when the cells that the formula depends on have changed. For example, if you make a mistake of some sort in excel and change one number, it will automatically update the previous numbers and change them based on the new numbers or formula's provided.

Data analysis (charts and graphs)

In Excel, you are given the decision to make a graph based on the table you have created, of your desire. You can also manipulate it to be any kind of them,  including a map of the world. If you want to present a particular world or country change, you can take your project to meetings and show them off, since it is a better way to provide an understanding of something using a chart as a presentation.

Comments and Notes

In Excel, you can make one document and share the document with different people. When someone has an individual comment, you are able to see a yellow triangle on the side of the cell it is basing its comment on. As well as comments the person or people can leave not only a comment but also a note, maybe a memory note for people to remember, this time there will still be a triangle at the edge of the cell the note is basing on. However, the difference is the triangle with a not is black. The colors are made different for people to notice which one is commenting and which one is leaving notes.

Text wrap, clip and column merge

When you write something down in a cell, and it goes past the length of the cell there is a format called the wrap that will allow you to write not across the cell but down towards the cell bellow in the same column. If you want to clip something which is moving across something the effect will be you will be cutting the letters that move past the cell. Instead, the column merge of two cells is when you put together two cells and join them to create one, it is the same thing as the wrap except when you wrap something you can still see the lines that separate each cell from each other.

Create a header
There are millions of cells, and you can see this when you scroll down, the column's numbers increase. When you click on the button separating columns from the rows, you will then drag a certain line towards where you want the header to be. Most of the time, header's are used to being the headings of charts, saying what the numbers or letters mean below it. Now if you scroll down the names which it was before still stays in its recent position.

Width and length resize of columns
When your columns are too small or too large, you can explore the width and length of the columns and rows you want and it will automatically largen it for you so that you can have it given a better size. You can do this by firstly click on the button that separates the column and the rows, this will select all of the cells, rows, and columns and then you must click the line that separates A and B then drag the line to chose the width of the cell. You can do the same thing with the length, here you had to pick the line that separates the columns 1 and 2 and wanted the size of all the columns if you only want to change one particular cell's size then only select that cell and so the same thing.

A linemate of text
If you want to change where the text is inside a cell then chose either the middle, bottom or the top of the cell. Firstly wanted a particular button with a surface and an arrow pointing to it. Chose either of the diagrams while having clicked an individual cell or even all the cells, and chose your pick, this will then change where the text is placed in the cell.

Data Validation

If you go under data and click on data validation, you can find a sort of box that shows you a certain amount of options. Click on the list for range, and then there are other options, you must click on the list of items. Type a few different things and separate them with "," in this way whenever you click on a cell, it will give you the option of the different things you wrote. For example, if I wrote "Rebecca, Lissa, Dina" then whenever I click on a cell it will show me the options to click either of those names.

Conditional formatting
If I use text validation, you will find that I can make rules which allow you to complete different things. To do this, you must go under formatting then under conditional formatting which will then turn out to the side of the sheet. Click on the text that is not empty.  Then go under text contains, afterward write anything you want in the writing space. Click on whatever color of text boldness and so on and once you click done to try to type whatever you just did in a cell. You can see that now, however, I changed the word has become a rule and is now completely exactly what you changed it to be either bold or different color or whatever you changed it to be.

Adding a Link to bring from one sheet to another

In Excel, you can have a choice of making any amount of spreadsheets bellow the sheet there is a button saying add click on that button to acquire the second sheet. If you go under insert, it will give you an option to add anything you want if it is a picture a graph and even a link. If you click on a certain cell and then on the insert link button you will find a series of buttons, click on "sheets in spreadsheets," then you will see sheet 1 and sheet 2 if you are ing sheet 1 click on layer 2 if you are in sheet 2 clicks on sheet 1. Once you are done, you can see your writing on the cell has been underlined if you click on the layer it will immediately transport you from sheet 1 to sheet 2.

Reflection:

I learned a lot of new features of excel along the way of doing this project, I was able to firstly look over excel and discover new things, and personally, I found these things quite fascinating, because I have never experienced this complexity while exploring excel. One thing that I found fascinating was probably conditional formatting because I had never experienced how things can change and stay that way if you only manipulate it to be so. Another really thought tracking thing was the data validation feature because when people take a long time to write something down, to believe that you will always have the option to choose from the different options is a really cool thing. Personally, I would say that my features were very complicated, especially understanding how fascinating they were, even by questioning how humans were able to create this, it would definitely involve a lot of programming skills, to be able to do all of these things. I also believe that they are quite useful features because mot of the time we come across these times where we are facing a problem, and to know that these problems are very often, it is a good thing that people were able to find a way to fix the problems. We as students, could use excel in a various amount of subject, mainly math, because we will be able to discover how to make charts, and graphs, and change them depending on our skills, also because we can use it for calculating, it is a good experience to work with a device, and since in the future excel will be useful for us as we will be able to organize ourselves by using this.  Also, we might also need it for science since there we are also learning about graphs.
